Thistle & Weed, Khakibos 2023

Thistle & Weed is a spirited Cape-winery collaboration founded in 2015 by viticulturist Etienne Terblanche and winemaker Stephanie Wiid. Rooted in the resilient flora of the Western Cape, the estate seeks to express exceptional terroir through drought-adapted Portuguese varieties. This 2023 Khakibos comprises approximately 45% Verdelho, 19% Chenin Blanc, 15% Alvarinho, 11% Palomino and 10% Fernão Pires, offering aromas of white peach, naartjie peel and acacia blossom. The palate is layered and textured, with orchard-fruit richness balanced by lively acidity and a saline, sherbet-like finish. Subtle lees and toasted brioche notes bring complexity, while the whole-bunch press and older-oak maturation underscore purity of fruit and Cape-coastal freshness.
